TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto officially welcomed President of Peru Dina Boluarte at a state ceremony at Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday, August 11, 2025.
Boluarte arrived at the palace around 10:00 a.m. Jakarta time in a black Mercedes-Benz with a "Peru" license plate. She was escorted by 60 mounted soldiers carrying bamboo poles topped with Indonesian flags.
As she neared the entrance, hundreds of elementary school students, positioned along the road, waved small Indonesian flags in welcome. The Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) was assembled in the palace courtyard for the ceremony.
Dressed in a turquoise green suit, Boluarte was greeted personally by Prabowo, who donned a gray suit and a light blue shirt. The two leaders shook hands and proceeded down a blue carpet to the palace entrance. They stood side-by-side as Paspampres troops presented arms.
The national anthems of Peru, "Himno Nacional del Perú," and Indonesia, "Indonesia Raya," were played, accompanied by a salute of several cannon shots.
The heads of state then inspected the troops. Boluarte, accompanied by Prabowo, walked across the field to review the assembled honor guard. She also greeted the elementary school students who were holding flags.
Following the inspection, the two leaders introduced their respective delegations. Prabowo's delegation included Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya as Cabinet Secretary, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman, and Trade Minister Budi Santosa. Boluarte introduced several ministers, including Peru's Minister of Economy and Finance, Rául Pérez-Reyes.
The leaders then moved to the credential room for a group photograph, after which President Boluarte signed the guest book. They then proceeded to the working room for a private discussion.
The Presidential Secretariat reported that Boluarte’s visit was a reciprocal gesture following Prabowo’s visit to Peru. On Thursday, November 14, 2024, Prabowo met with Boluarte at the Peruvian National Palace in Lima to discuss potential areas of cooperation.
As a result of that earlier meeting, Indonesia and Peru committed to finalizing a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) within six months. Prabowo expressed his belief that the agreement could be signed during Boluarte's visit.
The bilateral discussions also touched on collaboration in combating narcotics and a shared perspective on international issues. However, specific details on these topics were not yet provided.
