TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Bimo Wijayanto as the Director General of Taxation at the Finance Ministry. The appointment followed a summons to the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, where Bimo and Djaka Budi Utama met with the President amid speculation about their new roles within the Ministry of Finance.

Bimo is widely anticipated to lead the Directorate General of Taxation, while Djaka is rumored to be appointed as the Director General of Customs and Excise.

"He (Prabowo) provided a lot of directions. He emphasized his commitment to improving Indonesia's taxation system to make it more accountable, more integral, and more independent in securing his national programs, especially in terms of state revenues," Bimo said after his meeting with President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

However, Bimo clarified that he could not officially confirm his appointment as Director General of Taxation just yet. He noted that his mandate would be in accordance with the directives of Finance Minister Sri Mulyani. "For the inauguration and all kinds of instructions from the Finance Minister, I can't disclose it to the public yet; I have to consult with the Finance Minister."

Nevertheless, Bimo confirmed that President Prabowo urged both him and Djaka to strengthen their respective directorates in securing state revenues.

Quoting the 2023 Annual Report of PT Phapros Tbk, Bimo Wijayanto was born in Ngada, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on July 5, 1977. He has served as an Independent Commissioner of PT Phapros, a subsidiary of PT Kimia Farma Tbk, since May 25, 2022.

Bimo is an alumnus of Taruna Nusantara High School (1995). He earned his degree in Accounting from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in 2000, followed by a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Queensland, Australia, in 2005.

His academic pursuits also include Postdoctoral Fellowships as an Inaugural Hadi Soesastro Prize recipient through the Australia Awards at the National Center for Social and Economic Modeling (Natsem) and the Duce Center for International Development (DCID), Duke University, United States. He also holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in economics from Natsem, University of Canberra, Australia.

Before his executive role in state-owned enterprises, Bimo began his career as a part-time lecturer at the Professional Accountant Education (PPA), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UGM, from March 2007 to August 2009. He also served at the Directorate General of Taxation (DGT) from January 2003 to January 2010.

Furthermore, Bimo held the position of Senior Expert Staff at the Office of the Presidential Staff (KSP) of the Republic of Indonesia from 2015 to 2016, and later as Deputy Assistant for Strategic Investment, Deputy for Coordination of Investment and Mining, at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs (Kemenko Marves).

According to the Electronic Wealth Report (e-LHKPN) viewed on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) website, Bimo has submitted his wealth report three times. His first submission was as a Senior Expert Staff at KSP, totaling Rp5.97 billion in 2019.

Subsequently, as Deputy Assistant for Strategic Investment at Kemenko Marves, his reported wealth was Rp6.17 billion in 2020. His most recent e-LHKPN, submitted on March 15, 2022, while still serving in that role, reported a total wealth of Rp6.67 billion.
