TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Headquarters of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has received reports from a team in Lebanon regarding an explosion incident that resulted in the death of two soldiers and injuries to two others. The incident took place on Monday, March 30, 2026, in South Lebanon.
The Head of Information Center at TNI Headquarters, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, stated that the explosion targeted the Escort Team of B Company of the XXIII-S/UNIFIL Task Force. The team, part of the East Sector Mobile Reserve, was escorting a Combat Support Service Unit convoy.
"The escort was part of the duty to provide support from the UNIFIL United Nations Post 7-2 Sector East Headquarters," Aulia said in his statement on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
The troops were supposed to move towards the XXIII-S/UNIFIL Konga Battalion Headquarters at UNP 7-1. However, due to the high escalation of conflict, the vehicle carrying several TNI soldiers was hit by artillery fire.
Aulia mentioned that the exact cause of the explosion incident in South Lebanon is still under investigation by UNIFIL. "We are also continuously monitoring the situation and preparing contingency measures in the face of the dynamics in the Lebanon mission area," said the two-star general.
TNI has released the identities of the two soldiers who were victims, namely Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ichwan. Meanwhile, the two others who were injured are Lieutenant Inf Sulthan Wirdean Maulana and Chief Private Deni Rianto.
"The two injured soldiers have been evacuated and are receiving medical treatment at Saint George Hospital in Beirut, Lebanon," Aulia said.
On a separate occasion, Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I, Dave Laksono, stated that the two Indonesian soldiers who died in Lebanon were hit by a landmine while passing through, based on information from various sources. "When an attempt was made to evacuate them, they were showered with armed attacks," he said at the DPR complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
This politician from the Golkar Party called for a special and thorough investigation to determine the cause, including the suspected presence of mines in the peacekeeping personnel patrol crossing area.
"There must be an investigation involving all parties and conducted openly so that justice and the safety of the soldiers are truly upheld," said Dave.
