The following is the list of the top 3 news on Tempo English today:
1. Government Probes Reports of Ex-IDF Soldiers Running Villas in Bali
Indonesian Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Agus Andrianto, stated that 100 immigration officers have been deployed to strengthen surveillance in Bali. One of the reasons for the deployment is to investigate the alleged ownership of villas by former Israeli soldiers.
"Currently, there are 100 Immigration officers reinforcing surveillance in Bali," said Agus when met in the area of Pantai Indah Kapuk 2, Tangerang, Banten, on Friday, August 8, 2025.
According to Agus, the reinforcement of surveillance is also in response to a request from Bali Governor I Wayan Koster. This is also to follow up on the presence of two former Israel Defense Force members who are suspected of having started a business in Bali.
2. Egypt Seeks $35 Billion Gas Deal with Israel Despite Gaza Conflict
Israel has signed its largest export agreement to send natural gas to Egypt, even as Cairo voices growing anger over Israel's genocide in Gaza. The deal will deepen Egypt's energy dependence on Israel amid increasing public outrage over its alleged involvement in the Gaza blockade.
The agreement, as reported by The New Arab, was announced on Thursday by NewMed Energy, one of the three co-owners of Israel's Leviathan gas field. The deal will allow Israel to export up to US$35 billion worth of natural gas to Egypt until 2040, with a 14 percent increase in import prices.
This import for Egypt is nearly three times its import of gas from Israel's Leviathan gas field and marks the largest export deal in Israel's history.
3. Indonesia Issues Rp8.5 Trillion Worth of Kangaroo Bonds
The Indonesian government has issued Government Bonds in Australian Dollar currency, known as Kangaroo Bonds. The total issuance from the inaugural transaction through the Australian Medium-Term Notes (AMTN) program reached AU$800 million or approximately Rp8.5 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp10,630 per AU$).
The inaugural offer of Kangaroo Bond issuance was officially opened on August 7, 2025. The series offered are RIAUD0830 and RIAUD0835 with tenors of 5 and 10 years, respectively. The issuance nominal for each series is AU$500 million and AU$300 million. The yield offered for the 5-year tenor is 4.427 percent, and for the 10-year tenor is 5.380 percent.
