TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - US President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday, as reported by Anadolu that Iran will be sending 20 oil tankers to the United States through the Strait of Hormuz starting on Monday morning, March 30, 2026.
"I can't define it exactly, but they gave us, I think out of a sign of respect, 20 boats of oil — big, big boats of oil — going through the Hormuz Strait, and that's taking place starting tomorrow morning," he told reporters on Air Force One on the way to Washington, DC.
"I would only say that we're doing extremely well in that negotiation," said Trump.
He added that he is "pretty sure” the US will make a deal with Iran, “but it's possible we won't.”
Controlling the Strait of Hormuz
In a separate interview with Israeli Channel 14 on Sunday as quoted by Anadolu, Trump said that the United States has started to take steps to control the Strait of Hormuz.
When asked if the US is capable of taking control of the strategic shipping lane, Trump replied, “Yes, sure, it’s already happening.”
Trump also highlighted close coordination with Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Iran. “The coordination is very close. We have a good relationship. It couldn’t be better,” he said.
He added that he believes Iran really wants a deal. "I think they really want to do it. Anyone would want a deal if you were getting destroyed, wouldn't they?" he said.
The US and Israel have been launching airstrikes against Iran since February 28, killing more than 1,340 people, including the then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran responded with drone and missile attacks on Israel and several regions housing US military assets in Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries.
