TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - With its walls and roof painted sky blue, the building of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Palmerah, West Jakarta, stands out among the surrounding structures. The free nutritious meal (MBG) kitchen sits beside the Palmerah Police Precinct complex, which features New Indies-style architecture with giant pillars and tall brownish ceilings.
Right next to the Palmerah kitchen stands a structure resembling a greenhouse. A large sign at its entrance reads: “Hydroponic and Biofloc Greenhouse, Palmerah Jakarta Metropolitan Police SPPG.” The vegetables inside once withered, even though lush green leaves had filled the hydroponic warehouse when President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the facility on February 13, 2026. The managers have since replaced them with red spinach plants that are now growing thickly.
Mustaqim Mauliddin, Head of the Palmerah SPPG unit, said the kitchen targets serving 2,000 beneficiaries, including students of Kemala Bhayangkari 07 Kindergarten in Palmerah, which sits right next to the facility. “We have delivered meals to the school since January 2026, a month before the inauguration by President Prabowo,” Mustaqim said when met in Palmerah on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
The Palmerah SPPG kitchen partners with the cooperative of the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police. Mustaqim said he and his team needed many adjustments when working with the cooperative. The police-owned enterprise had previously handled only savings-and-loans services and had no experience running a catering business. “We are the ones who have to give guidance,” he said.
