TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Riyadh issued an appeal to all Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Saudi Arabia following the escalating security situation in the Middle East. Indonesian citizens are asked to remain calm but vigilant regarding developments in their respective areas.

In the first point of the circular, the Indonesian Embassy emphasized the importance of maintaining calm amidst the evolving situation. "Remain calm and do not panic, but always increase your vigilance regarding developments in the situation around your respective domiciles," read a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in the appeal, quoted on Sunday, March 1, 2026.

Explosions rocked Tehran, the capital of Iran, on Saturday, February 28, 2026, following an attack that United States (US) officials described to Al Jazeera as a joint operation with Israel. On the same day, explosions were also heard in Qatar, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, and Manama after Iran launched missiles towards Israel.

Furthermore, Indonesian citizens are asked to only access information from official and trusted sources and to follow the directions of the Saudi Arabian government authorities and the Indonesian Embassy. This step is considered crucial to prevent disinformation that could trigger panic among the Indonesian diaspora community.

The Indonesian Embassy also reminded all Indonesian citizens to ensure they have registered. Those who have not yet registered are encouraged to do so immediately through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Peduli WNI website. The Indonesian Embassy emphasized that this registration is crucial to facilitate communication and protection in the event of an emergency.

In addition, Indonesian citizens are encouraged to join the official WhatsApp groups of their respective regional associations to facilitate coordination. They are also asked to prepare important documents, such as passports and ID cards, in physical or digital form for easy access at any time.

Regarding mobility, the Indonesian Embassy urges the postponement of non-essential travel to areas potentially affected by security escalations. "Postpone non-essential travel to countries or regions potentially affected by escalating security situations," the Indonesian Embassy stated.

In an emergency, Indonesian citizens can contact the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh hotline via WhatsApp at +966 569173990. The Indonesian Embassy stated that it continues to monitor the development of the situation closely and will provide further information if there are matters that require further attention from Indonesian citizens.
