The spin-off of The Addams Family story, Wednesday 2, premiered on Netflix on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Miles Millar, the creator of Wednesday, stated that this season is full of surprises as Wednesday, who initially felt familiar with Nevermore Academy, is faced with very different circumstances. "Nothing goes as planned," he said.
Alfred Gough, the executive producer, mentioned that in the second season, Wednesday's journey becomes even more complex. "This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore," he said as quoted on the Netflix website on Friday, August 8, 2025.
Historical Cemetery in Ireland
The second season of Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, was filmed in Ireland. Deansgrange, the largest cemetery in Ireland, was chosen as one of the shooting locations. Deansgrange is the burial place of many prominent figures in Ireland.
This cemetery first opened in 1865. Former Prime Minister of Ireland Sean Lemass and singer Sinead O'Connor are buried here. The cemetery covers an area of 70 hectares and is located in the village of Shankill.
Initially, Deansgrange was intended to be a family burial area. However, the cemetery is now almost full with about 150,000 graves. The cemetery uses a variety of tombstones, from traditional Celtic crosses to more modern black granite slabs, according to the Comhairle Contae County Council website.
The cemetery is also reported to be one of the most expensive burial areas in Ireland, as it is considered an elite area, as cited by Irish Central.
Deansgrange Cemetery is also a famous tourist destination in Ireland. It is the final resting place of former Prime Minister Sean Lemass and about 50 individuals involved in the Easter Rising of 1916. The Easter Rising was a six-day armed rebellion in Ireland against British rule. It is considered a significant event in Irish history.
Deansgrange Cemetery has also become a subject of research for historians, including Shabnam Vasisht, who is researching the involvement of Irishmen in the Indian Rebellion against colonialism at that time. Her research in this cemetery has been documented in the book Digging Up The Raj, as quoted by the Dublin Inquirer.
