Australian PM Anthony Albanese Arrives in Indonesia for 3-Day Visit

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is visiting Indonesia after his election win, arriving at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Wednesday evening, May 14, 2025, at about 6:30 p.m. local time.

Albanese's arrival in the country marks the beginning of his three-day visit, from May 14 to 16, 2025.

The Australian PM was welcomed by honor guards that had lined up under the airstairs to give him an official salute.

Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, the Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Siswo Pramono, and the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Roderick Bruce Brazier also welcomed Albanese's arrival.

After the welcoming ceremony, Albanese and his delegation continued their journey to the hotel where they are staying for the duration of the visit.

Albanese's activities in Indonesia will kick off on Thursday, starting with a welcoming ceremony at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, by President Prabowo Subianto.

"After attending the series of welcoming ceremonies, President Prabowo and PM Albanese will have a tête-à-tête meeting and a bilateral meeting together with their respective delegations," said Yusuf Permana, the Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, in his written statement on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025.

After the meetings, the two heads of state are scheduled to hold a joint press conference about the various points of talks between Australia and Indonesia.

Albanese's visit is taking place shortly after his victory in the Australian elections, in which Prabowo congratulated him via phone call on May 4.
