TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) confirmed that the forest and land fire in Buleleng Regency, Bali, has been fully extinguished after scorching roughly 48 hectares of hilly vegetation.
The blaze in Buleleng was recorded as the largest land fire reported to the agency over the past two days.
"Conditions at the site are now reported to be safe and under control after a joint team successfully extinguished the fire," said Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 21, as reported by Antara.
Abdul explained that the flames first began engulfing dry grassy vegetation in the hills of Pemuteran Village, Gerokgak District, on Friday, July 17.
The BNPB Operations Control Directorate confirmed that the fire in the hilly area was clearly visible from the Villa Bukit Kursi tourist area.
In response to the incident, he said, the Buleleng Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) immediately deployed a joint team to douse the flames and prevent them from spreading to surrounding residential areas.
Ground suppression efforts were carried out collaboratively, involving local BPBD personnel, members of the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (Polri), the fire department, the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), and local residents.
"We urge the public and stakeholders to remain vigilant regarding the potential for new hotspots, especially across dry vegetation during the dry season," he said.
