TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian weather is finally free from the influence of cyclone seed 93S. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported on late Monday, December 22, 2025, that for the next 24 hours, Indonesia will not see increased rainfall or strong winds due to the cyclone seed. But the country will still see high waves in some parts.
High waves of about 1.25-2.50 meters are expected in the waters west of Lampung, the southern part of the Sunda Strait, the southern waters of Java Island, the Indian Ocean west of Lampung, and the Indian Ocean south of Java Island.
Other parts are likely to have higher waves of 2.50-4.0 meters. These include the Indian Ocean west of the Mentawai Islands to Bengkulu, and the Indian Ocean south of Bali to West Nusa Tenggara.
Despite the decreased influence, the cyclone is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 cyclone. BMKG revealed that the storm will move west-southwest away from the Indonesian region.
"There's high chance that cyclone seed 93S will develop into tropical cyclone in the next 24-72 hours," BMKG forecaster Jumadil Syakir said.
The cyclone seed, which formed on December 11, is supported, among other factors, by sufficiently warm sea surface temperatures (28-30 degrees Celsius) and sufficiently moist air humidity in the surface layer up to 850 hPa (80-90 percent). However, it was also mentioned that there is observed intrusion of dry air in the middle to upper layers (500-200 hPa) towards the system, which could be one of the hindrances to further growth.
As of late Monday, December 22, 2025, at 07:00 p.m. local time, the circulation center of Tropical Cyclone seed 93S was located in the Indian Ocean southwest of West Java. Its maximum wind speed was 35 knots (65 km/h) with a minimum air pressure of 996 hPa.
