TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that a surge of wet hydrometeorological disasters swept across Indonesia this past weekend. As of Sunday morning, December 21, 2025, the agency had recorded flooding and extreme weather events spanning five major provinces: South Kalimantan, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, and East Java.
Heavy rain triggered floods in five districts of North Hulu Sungai Regency, South Kalimantan, on Friday, December 19, 2025. "As many as 563 houses and several public facilities were affected. Until Saturday, the flood conditions were reported to be receding," said Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Communication, and Information Center, on Monday, December 22, 2025.
In South Kalimantan, floods also hit 20 districts in Banjar Regency. A total of 384 houses were submerged. The Banjar Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) set up an Emergency Disaster Post and distributed logistics to affected residents.
Meanwhile, in Central Java, floods struck the East Purwokerto District in Banyumas Regency. "Heavy rain caused the Bener River to overflow," Muhari stated.
At least 24 houses were flooded with water levels reaching 50 centimeters. The Banyumas BPBD evacuated the elderly, sent aid, and cleaned houses with local residents. According to Muhari, the water receded last Saturday.
In West Java, heavy rain caused the Rengas River to overflow, submerging 28 houses in the Parung District of Bogor Regency last Friday. The Bogor BPBD worked with the community to clean the affected homes.
On the same day, strong winds hit the Dramaga District in Bogor. "This event resulted in two heavily damaged houses, one moderately damaged house, and two lightly damaged houses," said Muhari.
Heavy rain and strong winds also struck the Sribhawono District in East Lampung, Lampung Province. Officials recorded four heavily damaged houses, 17 lightly damaged houses, and six damaged animal pens.
Extreme weather hit two areas in East Java last Saturday. In Pasuruan Regency, rain and wind damaged houses in five districts. "Details include 17 lightly damaged houses, 2 moderately damaged houses, and 1 heavily damaged house," Muhari added.
In the Singosari District of Malang Regency, the BPBD reported three moderately damaged houses and 13 lightly damaged houses due to wind. "The Disaster Mitigation Agency, together with local residents, carried out a communal cleaning effort on Sunday," said Muhari.
Heavy rain also caused landslides in six districts of Sukabumi Regency, West Java. "The Sukabumi Regency Disaster Management Agency reported one lightly damaged house, 11 other affected houses, and two public facilities impacted. The Disaster Management Agency, together with the joint team, has handled the landslide material," Muhari concluded.
