TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) Tbk has opened an exchange service for unfit currency (UTLE) for flood victims in Aceh. This service is an effort to restore the financial rights of the people and provide a sense of security amid difficult times.
BSI President Director Anggoro Eko Cahyo expressed deep empathy for the flood in Sumatra. He observed the phenomenon of many people trying to save remnants of their wealth, including cash damaged by water and mud. "We witnessed firsthand how people struggled to dry the banknotes buried in mud," said Anggoro, as quoted by Antara, on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
As part of this service, Anggoro continued, the company has opened facilities for exchanging damaged money at all BSI outlets in Aceh. This allows the money to be returned as savings or used by the people for transactions.
The company ensures that the process of exchanging damaged money is conducted transparently in accordance with Bank Indonesia regulations, including physical verification and identity recording. Anggoro urged customers to use the e-channel service to optimize transaction needs that can be done without having to visit the branch office.
This is done to save time and customers' transactions at the branch office. Some e-channel services accessible to customers include BSI Call 14040, BYOND mobile banking, BSI ATM, BSI Agents, BSI Net Banking, BEWIZE, and BSI Cash Management. Following flash floods that hit several areas in Aceh, Bank Syariah Indonesia confirmed that all of its 145 outlets had resumed normal operations. Within two weeks, the company conducted a massive acceleration of recovery, from cleaning up the remaining mud in branch offices to activating the telecommunication network.
In addition, the company distributed over 140 tons of logistics aid and built temporary shelters under the coordination of Danantara Indonesia.
