TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Mohamad Al-Arief, Managing Director of Global Relations and Governance at Danantara Indonesia, stated that the 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) presents a prime opportunity for Indonesia to advance its investment roadmap. He noted that several global parties have already scheduled meetings to discuss further cooperation.
"There will certainly be attendees we meet with for bilateral discussions. However, we have not yet reached the stage of making formal announcements," Al-Arief told the media at Wisma Danantara on Friday, January 9, 2026.
Al-Arief explained that Indonesia’s outbound investment plans are currently in the exploration and planning phases. He stopped short of disclosing specific details, noting that the projects are not yet ready for public release.
He considered Indonesia's presence at the forum a necessity. The event, to be held on January 19-23, 2026, in Davos, Switzerland, will be attended by approximately 3,000 participants from global business entities. Therefore, at the Indonesia Pavilion, the government is preparing event initiatives to approach potential investors.
"We also hold strategic bilateral meetings with multinational companies that will be present there," he added.
Previously, Danantara announced that Indonesia started to build a Hajj Village in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The area is located about 2-3 kilometers from the Masjidil Haram, serving as the center of worship for Muslims performing Hajj or Umrah. The development is considered a strategic investment.
Nurul Ichwan, Deputy for Investment Promotion and Implementation at the Ministry of Investment and Industrial Estates, stated that Danantara is an institutional partner with relevant ministries for investment planning.
Danantara, established during President Prabowo Subianto's tenure, will be introduced at the forum and is expected to instill investor confidence as it plays a strategic role in managing funds from State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). "So, it's quite fascinating for us to be able to promote it," explained Nurul.
This year's World Economic Forum carries the theme "A Spirit of Dialogue" to address future global geopolitical and economic situations. The Indonesian government will utilize this forum as a bridge to approach potential investors from various sectors.
