TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The death toll from the bomb explosion in Biak on Sunday, May 31, allegedly a wartime relic from World War II, has risen to six, according to Papua Regional Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito.
The number of victims from the bomb explosion increased after Mina Puadi (51) was declared dead early Tuesday morning.
Initially, the victim, who suffered minor injuries, complained about physical condition, but was reported dead on Tuesday after intensive examination at Biak Regional Hospital.
"With Mina's death, there are now six victims of the World War II bomb explosion in Biak on Sunday, May 31," said Cahyo Sukarnito in Jayapura on Tuesday.
The five previously reported deaths were Deflin Raubaba (41), Moris Raubaba (24), Karmila Ayorbaba (25), Israel Raubaba (7), and Isril Raubaba (5).
He said that based on reports received, 19 people were initially injured in the incident, including the deceased Mina Puadi.
The bomb that exploded in the Fisheries Complex area, Fandoi Village, Biak Kota District, Biak Numfor Regency, on Sunday, also resulted in three missing people. They are Yulianus Raubaba (26), Lae Madura (45), and Abis Marandof (27).
Rescuers are still searching for the three missing victims, even on the shore outside of the explosion parameter.
The scene cannot be disturbed because the Papua Regional Police bomb disposal team is still sterilizing the area to secure it from explosives. "Once it is declared safe, the Papua Regional Police forensic laboratory team will run a crime scene investigation," said Cahyo.
