TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Walt Disney Pictures has officially let down its hair on the live-action Tangled, unveiling its two leading stars for the long-anticipated reimagining of the 2010 animated classic.
The studio announced that Australian actress Teagan Croft will take on the role of Rapunzel, while Milo Manheim, best known for Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise, has been cast as the charming outlaw Eugene Fitzherbert, better known as Flynn Rider.
Disney confirmed the casting on social media on January 7, writing, “Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim are Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in the live-action reimagining of Disney’s ‘Tangled.’ Coming only to theaters.” The announcement marks a major milestone for the project, which joins Disney’s growing slate of live-action adaptations built around its animated legacy.
The live-action Tangled has also been gaining momentum behind the scenes. Michael Gracey, widely recognized for directing The Greatest Showman, is reportedly attached to helm the remake of Disney’s 2010 animated hit, which originally featured Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi as the voices of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.
Adding to the project’s growing intrigue, reports from People suggested that Scarlett Johansson was in talks to portray Mother Gothel, Rapunzel’s manipulative captor, a role famously voiced by Donna Murphy in the animated film.
The casting decision follows an extensive international search, with Disney reportedly sending up lanterns across the U.S. and the U.K. to find the film’s leading stars. Finalists ultimately screen-tested in London in December, just ahead of the winter holidays according to The Hollywood Reporters.
Both stars arrive with varied acting backgrounds. Croft first gained widespread attention for her breakout turn as Raven in DC’s Titans, which aired from 2018 to 2023, and has since built her filmography with roles in True Spirit, The Osiris Child, and Alphas.
After the big announcement, Manheim shared the news on Instagram, writing, “Too grateful to put into words. I will do him justice, I promise.”
