TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The psychological thriller The Woman in Cabin 10 not only delivers gripping tension through its storyline but also showcases the breathtaking landscapes of England, Scotland, and Norway. For film enthusiasts and travelers, these places can be dream destinations, offering a chance to step into the world visualized on screen.
The film stars Keira Knightley, Guy Pearce, Hannah Waddingham, David Ajala, Art Malik, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, among others. It tells the story of a journalist assigned to cover the maiden voyage of a luxurious cruise ship, only to stumble upon a mystery after a passenger seemingly falls overboard late at night.
Here are the primary shooting locations for The Woman in Cabin 10:
1. The Cruise at Portland Harbour, England
One of the key settings is Portland Harbour in Dorset, England. In the film, the cruise ship passes through the artificial harbor area to create the illusion of the open sea. Director Simon Stone explained that the harbor's conditions and the surrounding waters were intentionally used to create scenes that are both tense and visually aesthetic. The dramatic backdrop of the cliffs and the Portland Bill lighthouse perfectly complements the film's atmosphere, as reported by Travel and Leisure Asia.
2. Beautiful House at Fairbourne Reservoir East
Interior scenes of the luxurious house were filmed at Fairbourne Reservoir East in the village of Harrietsham, England. Formerly a functioning reservoir, this location has been renovated into a unique, industrial-style residence. Its distinctive beauty and design appeal have also led to its appearance in the series Black Mirror, adding to its draw for tourists eager to explore filming sites.
3. Scottish Highlands: A Grand Natural Stage
Several dramatic scenes were shot at Glen Affric Estate in the Highlands of Scotland. The vast expanse of mountains, dense forests, and damp, misty air creates a tense yet magical atmosphere. This rugged location provides a natural ambiance that serves as a powerful contrast to the tight, luxurious confines of the ship at sea.
4. Norwegian Fjord: The Mysterious Waterway
Exterior ship scenes were captured at Hjorundfjorden, Norway. Director Stone specifically chose this spectacular fjord and utilized a combination of drone and speed boat cameras to capture the forbidding sea atmosphere. To maintain narrative continuity, this location was cleverly combined with visual effects to create the impression of a vast and eerie open waterway.
5. The Superyacht and Studio Sets
According to CN Traveler, the production team searched extensively for the perfect vessel, eventually finding the Aurora Borealis. They enlisted the help of a yacht broker to select a superyacht with the right aesthetics and secure permission for filming aboard. Meanwhile, production designer Alice Normington meticulously decorated the yacht to ensure continuity between the actual ship and the elaborate sets built by her team at Shepperton Studios outside London. The studio sets included crucial areas like cabins, a library, a spa, and the main corridor, where key dramatic action takes place.
