TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that a child from Indonesian citizen was arrested by the Jordanian police on May 19, 2025, for allegedly supporting ISIS activities.
In a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday, as quoted by Antara, the Acting Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, stated that the Indonesian Embassy in Amman received a report from the Indonesian diaspora that their child was arrested by the Jordanian Police on May 19.
"The arrest of the child is on suspicion of involvement in online activities that indicate support for ISIS," said Heni.
According to Heni, the child has appeared in five hearings at the Juvenile Court in Amman, and the sixth hearing is scheduled to resume on January 13.
Heni emphasized that the Indonesian Government and the Indonesian Embassy in Amman ensure that the legal process is conducted with a focus on the principles of child protection. She added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has communicated with the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Jordanian Embassy in Jakarta.
She also mentioned that meetings with relevant authorities at the central and representative levels have been conducted to ensure legal assistance and treatment in accordance with the child's status as an Indonesian citizen.
"The latest development on January 7, after obtaining permission from the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy in Amman visited the child in detention in Madaba, where the child is confirmed to be in good health and condition," said Heni.
Heni also emphasized that the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Amman will continue to monitor the case to ensure the rights of the child as an Indonesian citizen are protected throughout the legal process.
