How Has ChatGPT Health Gained 230 Million Users Shortly After Launch?

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Health, a dedicated space for users to discuss health and fitness topics with the AI, separating these conversations from standard chats to better protect users’ medical context.

The move comes as health-related queries have surged on ChatGPT. OpenAI reported that over 230 million users seek answers on health and fitness topics weekly. With ChatGPT Health, these discussions will now take place in a specific space.

Users who start health-related conversations outside the Health section will receive prompts to move their discussion to the dedicated feature.

OpenAI stressed that ChatGPT is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, citing its terms of service.

Within ChatGPT Health, the AI can still reference information shared in standard conversations. For instance, if a user previously asked for a marathon training plan, the system will recognize the user as a runner when discussing fitness goals in the Health space.

The feature also allows integration with personal health data from apps such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal, while OpenAI emphasizes that these conversations will not be used to train its AI models.

Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, said the launch addresses longstanding issues in healthcare, including high costs, limited access, overworked doctors, and gaps in continuity of care.

However, AI chatbots in healthcare carry risks. Large language models like ChatGPT predict probable answers rather than guaranteed correct ones, raising the potential for misinformation or “hallucinations.”

During the initial rollout, ChatGPT Health is available to Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users in supported countries, including Indonesia, but excluding the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK.
