TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is preparing to export rice and corn this year, the CEO of state-owned food logistics company Bulog, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, announced.
“In 2026, Bulog is targeting to carry out exports of both rice and corn,” Ahmad said in a written statement on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Ahmad emphasized that the export plan is a direct mandate from President Prabowo Subianto, conveyed during the harvest festival on Wednesday, January 7. He added that Bulog will collaborate with the police to facilitate the exports.
Indonesia also exported corn in 2025. According to national food balance projection data as of December 2025, the country had exported 21,300 tons of corn through November, with plans to export an additional 31,600 tons in December.
Surplus Corn Production Drives Export Plans
Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman said Indonesia recorded a surplus of dried corn with 14 percent moisture content totaling 463,900 tons in 2025.
Thefigure is based on NationalFoodAgencycalculations, whichshowed a production-consumptiondifferential of 16.11 milliontons of cornagainst a consumption of 15.65 milliontonsthatyear.
Corn production in 2025 rose by 6.44 percent from the previous year, reaching 15.14 million tons, Amran noted. The surplus also exceeded the 2023 figure, when production stood at 14.77 million tons and consumption at 14.47 million tons, leaving a surplus of 307,400 tons.
“The surplus of corn production and consumption increased by 23.2 percent from 307,400 tons in 2023 to 463,900 tons in 2025,” Amran said.
Amran highlighted the surplus as a key reason for encouraging Bulog to prepare for exports. “We are ready to export. Bulog, please note that this is not a small task,” he said.
