TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia achieved another impressive achievement at the 2026 World Climbing Series Chamonix after Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi won the gold medal in the women's speed event in Chamonix, France, on Sunday.
This victory also marked Desak's second consecutive title, having also won the Krakow series last week.
"I'm very happy. Tonight I put on my best performance and really enjoyed the competition. I'm happy to dedicate this gold medal to my country and my team," Desak said after the match, as reported on the official World Climbing website.
In the final, Desak put on a dominant performance, defeating Italy's Giulia Randi. The Indonesian athlete clocked a time of 6.22 seconds, surpassing Randi's 6.51 seconds.
The bronze medal went to French host Capucine Viglione. Both Randi and Viglione achieved their first podium finishes in the World Climbing Series.
Desak's journey to the title was not easy. The final round was marked by several surprises after Chinese climbers were eliminated in the first round.
Meanwhile, the world record holder from the United States, Emma Hunt, was eliminated in the quarterfinals after being defeated by Giulia Randi.
Randi had put in an impressive performance, eliminating several top seeds and advancing to the final.
However, Desak maintained her consistent performance throughout the knockout rounds before ultimately securing the gold medal with a best time in the final.
Desak's success completed Indonesia's brilliant performance in Chamonix. Overall, Indonesia took home three of the six medals up for grabs in the speed events, including two gold medals.

1. Desak Made Rita Kusuma - 6.22 seconds
2. Guilia Randi - 6.51 seconds
3. Capucine Viglione - 6.41 seconds
