TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - American-born Indonesian fighter Bilal Hasan knocked out Peruvian Nilson Rojas during his UFC debut on Saturday in Shanghai, China.
According to the UFC, Bilal knocked out his flyweight opponent in the second round with a right hand.
This result brings Bilal's professional mixed martial arts (MMA) record to 10-0 (10 wins without a loss), with one of those wins a no-contest.
Of those 10 wins, four were by TKO and four by KO.
During his match against Rojas, Bilal displayed an aggressive and dominant offensive display. From the start of the first round, the 25-year-old fighter pressured Rojas with a flurry of varied attacks.
Bilal's kicks, punches, and knees cornered Rojas, who was undefeated in his nine professional MMA bouts before the fight.
Bilal, who secured a successful takedown in the round, shook Rojas' defense, leaving him bleeding. However, the first round ended without a winner.
In the second round, Rojas dropped Bilal with a kick at the 40th second. Bilal wasted no time getting up and regaining his stance, ready to continue the fight.
Bilal, who had steadily reduced the intensity of his attacks throughout the round, searched for a way to take his opponent down.
Evidently, it came to him two minutes into the round, when a feint from the athlete nicknamed "The Indoninja" finally sent Rojas sprawling on his back.
The UFC debutant initially moved his left hand as if he were about to jab. Rojas, seeing this, immediately ducked to protect his face and body.
This left the left side of his face exposed. Bilal cleverly landed a straight right hand squarely on Rojas' chin. Rojas fell, and the referee immediately stopped the fight.
UFC statistics show that Bilal Hasan landed a total of 56 strikes on Rojas' body throughout the fight, out of 137 attempts. Of those 56, 53 were deemed significant by the UFC.
Rojas landed only 37 strikes (33 of which were significant) out of 70 attempts.
Bilal also excelled in head strikes, hitting 52 percent accuracy to Rojas' 51 percent.
