TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian House is holding a meeting in Banda Aceh with the Task Force for Acceleration of Post-Sumatra Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction on Saturday, January 10, 2025. Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad led the meeting.
Tito Karnavian, the chair of the task force, is also present at the meeting. He was tapped to head the task force by President Prabowo Subianto earlier this week.
The House of Representatives (DPR) affirmed during the meeting that the post-disaster recovery in Sumatra requires centralized handling, hence the task force formation to coordinate national rehabilitation efforts.
"For integrated coordination, to allow the Sumatra disaster handling at a more focused, national level, the government has formed the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Sumatra Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction," Dasco said in the meeting.
Dasco mentioned that DPR also formed a task force to oversee the handling of the Sumatra disaster, which is tasked to assist the government's Task Force, including in coordinating various ministries and recovery projects.
Dasco said the post-disaster recovery efforts in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra will still be led by the government. Dasco then "welcomed" Tito to "lead" the recovery efforts in disaster-hit Sumatra.
Meanwhile, Tito stated that the government's task force has prepared various assistance programs for the disaster-affected areas in Sumatra. One of its priorities is reducing the number of evacuees. "We consider this important, a symbol of accelerated recovery," Tito said in the meeting.
Several officials, including ministers and lawmakers, attended the coordination meeting today. Some of them included Deputy House Speaker Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, Chair of DPR Commission VI Abdul Wachid, and Vice Chair of DPR Commission V Andi Iwan Darmawan Aras.
Ministers in attendance included Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, and Minister of Housing and Settlement Area Maruarat Sirait.
