TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) is preparing to secure the Christmas celebration in 2025 in Jakarta by conducting security checkpoint (pospam) inspections and securing the area around Jakarta Cathedral in Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta. The inspection took place on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
The Head of Jakarta Central Metropolitan Police (Kapolres Metro) Commissioner General (Kombes) Susatyo Purnomo Condro stated that the inspection was conducted to ensure the readiness of personnel, infrastructure, and integrated security systems ahead of the peak of the Christmas celebration.
"We conducted this inspection to ensure that all personnel are on standby, security equipment is complete, and the security measures are in line with the plan," said Susatyo in a written statement on Sunday, December 21, 2025.
The inspection points included tents A and B of the security checkpoint, the corridors of Jakarta Cathedral, the church's interior, Graha Pemuda first floor, and the silaturahmi tunnel which serves as an access point connecting the surrounding area.
The inspection was led by the Indonesian National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) together with the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) and Jakarta Central Metropolitan Police. The agenda concluded around 14:45 WIB and was part of the series of operations for Christmas and New Year's security conducted by Polri.
Susatyo added that the Christmas security measures were carried out in an integrated manner involving the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), local government, and church authorities to anticipate potential security disturbances, national order disruptions, and the density of churchgoers.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Sawah Besar Police Sector (Kapolsek) Kompol Rahmat Himawan explained that the police sector and joint personnel had implemented layered security throughout the area of Jakarta Cathedral, both inside and around the place of worship.
"We have stationed personnel at strategic points, from the entrance to the place of worship, to the exit and entrance routes for churchgoers. We also continue to coordinate with the church and internal officers to ensure that the entire series of worship activities runs smoothly," said Rahmat.
According to Rahmat, the situation around Jakarta Cathedral was observed to be safe and conducive until the conclusion of the inspection. The police also urged the public to adhere to regulations, maintain order, and follow the instructions of the officers during the Christmas and New Year's celebrations.
