TEMPO.CO, Jakarta World No. 1 Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon title after defeating Germany's Alexander Zverev 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 in the men's singles final on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

The victory made Sinner the first player to retain the Wimbledon men's singles crown in the Open Era since 2020, while also securing his first Grand Slam title of the 2026 season.

"We had a fantastic tournament. My team and I prepared as well as we possibly could, so I want to thank everyone on the team for the incredible support," Sinner said, as quoted by ATP and cited by Antara.

"I'm very happy to be back here and extremely pleased to win and defend this title."

Sinner overcame a slow start after losing a closely contested first-set tiebreak. The Italian, who turned 26 during the tournament, raised his level after the second-set break and won three consecutive sets to seal the championship after three hours and 46 minutes.

Throughout the tournament, Sinner delivered an impressive serving display, winning 76 percent of points behind his first serve. He also showed remarkable consistency from the baseline, remaining patient in long rallies before capitalizing on crucial moments.

Sinner converted his only break point opportunity in the fourth set before holding serve to clinch the title on his first championship point. The victory capped a flawless Wimbledon campaign in which he never dropped more than one set in any match.

The triumph ensures Sinner will remain World No. 1 in the latest ATP rankings, extending his lead over second-ranked Zverev.

The Wimbledon title completed an outstanding season for the Italian star, following victories at the Rome Masters and other major ATP tournaments earlier this year.

For Zverev, the defeat marked another disappointment in a Grand Slam final. The German, who turned 29 this year, was playing in his first Wimbledon final after previously falling short in several major championship matches.

"I congratulate Jannik. He showed again today why he is the best player in the world," Zverev said.

"To my team, we've had an incredible two months despite today's defeat. We came to Wimbledon without expecting to reach the final, and for the first time I truly believed we had a chance to win a Grand Slam."
