TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - This year, the selection and approval of Supreme Court justice candidates proposed by the Judicial Commission (KY) proceeded smoothly. The House of Representatives (DPR) approved 11 Supreme Court justices and three ad hoc judges on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Last year, the selection of the "representatives of God" stalled. The 2024 selection process for Supreme Court justice candidates also fell apart at the hands of the House's Commission III, which oversees legal affairs, for a number of reasons.

Judicial Commission Chair Abdul Chair Ramadhan claimed this year's selection process had followed the rules. He was confident there had been no nepotism in the process. Abdul Chair spoke with Tempo reporters Fajar Pebrianto, Friski Riana, and Amelia Rahima at his office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Were there irregularities in the Judicial Commission's selection process for Supreme Court justice candidates?

The selection process went smoothly and without a hitch, meaning there were no problems. It followed the standard operating procedures and regulations. No one violated the selection procedures.
