TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The death toll from flash floods and landslides in the Nepal-Tibet border reached 633 on Saturday, as search and rescue teams continued to recover bodies swept away by the surging rivers, according to Anadolu, as quoted from Antara.

Nepali police confirmed the recovery of 626 bodies, including 233 in Chitwan and 158 in East Nawalparasi. These two regions were among the worst-hit.

The death toll also includes dozens of people found in Gorkha, Dhading, and Nuwakot after the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, two major rivers originating in the Himalayas, overflowed.

Bodies of victims were found as far away as the border with India, which reported as many as 320 of its nationals missing in Nepal, according to Anadolu.

At least 638 people remain missing in Nepal, including 511 foreign nationals, but numbers are subject to change as search and rescue operations resume.

Meanwhile, on the Chinese side of the border, seven people have been reported dead and 554 others are still missing, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.

Nepali authorities reported that 2,301 people have been rescued or are receiving treatment for injuries. Most of the survivors were found in the Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts.

Meanwhile, police data shows that 27 officers remain out of contact. A total of 4,811 personnel have been deployed across the affected areas to handle search, evacuation, and post-disaster recovery efforts.

The International Red Cross estimates that the flash floods affected around 93,000 people, as "assessments continue in hard-to-reach areas."
