TEMPO.CO, Lombok - A male tourist from Malaysia, Rennie Bin Abdul Ghani, was reported to have fallen from a cliff on the Torean trail of Mount Rinjani, Indonesia, on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at around 13:00 WITA (Central Indonesia Time). The incident occurred as the victim and his group were descending from the Danau Segara Anak area towards Torean, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
Based on information from the Mount Rinjani National Park Office (BTNGR), the victim fell into a ravine with an estimated depth of 100 meters in the Banyu Urip area. The steep and rugged terrain requires special mountaineering equipment for the evacuation process.
Following the report, the Mataram SAR (Search and Rescue) Office immediately dispatched a rescue team from the Kayangan SAR Post and the Mataram SAR Office.
"Next, we will join the TNI, the police, BTNGR, EMHC Rinjani, the East Lombok SAR Unit, porters, local residents, and other relevant parties in conducting SAR operations," said Coordinator of the Kayangan SAR Post, Lalu Muhammad Hilmi, on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
The equipment used includes mountaineering gear, thermal drones, medical equipment, communication devices, and other supporting equipment.
"The evacuation effort is currently underway, and the joint SAR team is making every possible effort to reach and evacuate the victim safely," added Hilmi.
