Mount Dukono, located in the northern part of Halmahera Island, North Maluku, Indonesia erupted on Sunday, August 10, 2025, around 07:25 WIT (Eastern Indonesian Time). The 1,087-meter-high volcano above sea level (mdpl) spewed volcanic ash with a column reaching 800 meters from the summit of the crater.
Bambang Sugiono, one of the officers of the Dukono Volcano Observation Post (PGA), said the ash column was white to gray and directed to the northwest. "The eruption is still ongoing as the report is being prepared," Bambang said shortly after the incident.
The eruption was recorded on the seismograph owned by the Geological Disaster Mitigation and Volcanology Center (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency. The maximum amplitude of the eruption reached 14 mm and lasted 62.38 seconds.
The day before, Mount Dukono erupted at 21:41 WIT. However, according to Bambang, the visual eruption was not observed.
The Geological Agency has placed Mount Dukono on Alert status or Level II. Officers recommend that the surrounding community or tourists should not approach the Malupang and Warirang craters within a 4-kilometer radius.

In addition to Mount Dukono, Mount Ile Lewotolok in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), erupted on Sunday, August 10, 2025, around 01:20 WITA (Central Indonesian Time). During the eruption, Mount Ile Lewotolok spewed volcanic ash with a 300-meter-high column from the summit of the crater.
"This eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 35.8 mm and a duration of 54 seconds," said Fajaruddin M. Balido, an officer at the PGA Ile Lewotolok.
The 1,423-meter-high volcano is now on standby or Level III. The community is prohibited from entering the Mount Ile Lewotolok area within a 3-kilometer radius from the eruption center. This is an effort to prevent potential threats of landslides, lava avalanches, and hot clouds from the southern, southeast, west, and northeast sectors of Mount Ile Lewotolok.
"Residents living around the valleys or rivers that originate from the peak of Mount Ili Lewotolok should always be aware of the potential threat of lahars, especially during the rainy season," he said.
