Perry Warjiyo Resigns, Destry Damayanti Tapped as Acting BI Governor

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Destry Damayanti, has been appointed as the acting Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor after Perry Warjiyo resigned from his post. 

This decision has been made in accordance with the Board of Governors meeting on Sunday, July 26, 2026. The interim position is in line with Law No. 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia, as last amended by Law No. 4 of 2026 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector.

As previously reported, the government announced the resignation of the BI Governor Perry Warjiyo, as confirmed by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi at the Bank Indonesia building on Monday, July 27, 2026.

Prasetyo stated that President Prabowo Subianto had accepted the resignation letter of Perry Warjiyo. Subsequently, the government will process the resignation with respect and proceed with subsequent mechanisms outlined in the Bank Indonesia Law.

Meanwhile, Destry said Bank Indonesia will prioritize good and professional institutional governance and continue to synergize and coordinate with the government in carrying out their respective duties and responsibilities.

"Bank Indonesia will ensure the continuity of tasks and authority to achieve stability in the rupiah exchange rate, payment system, and financial system in order to support sustainable economic growth," said Destry, as quoted from Antara, Monday, July 27, 2026.
