TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, and several other regional mediators have proposed a 10-day ceasefire to the United States and Iran, Axios reported citing sources.
The report, published on Monday evening, July 20, stated that the Trump administration is currently reviewing the proposal. Washington has also urged Israel to refrain from any actions that could jeopardize a potential diplomatic settlement.
However, the United States is simultaneously preparing countermeasures in case negotiations fail to yield results.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military has reportedly raised its readiness level, preparing for a potential escalation into a full-scale campaign in the coming days.
The proposed ceasefire reportedly outlines a temporary halt to hostilities, the reopening of shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz, and a window for Washington and Tehran to salvage a previously negotiated memorandum of understanding.
