TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Palestinian Red Crescent on Thursday said its team had managed to enter Tel al-Sultan in Rafah, southern Gaza, and rescued the body of a paramedic among nine other medical crews who got trapped in Israel's siege five days ago.
In a statement as reported by Anadolu, the Palestinian Red Crescent organization said that after five days of coordination efforts, their team, accompanied by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) staff, managed to reach Tel al-Sultan, where Israeli forces had been besieging and targeting the medical crews.
The rescue workers found the body of a paramedic but had to retreat as it was already dark. They planned to continue the search on Friday morning, March 28, 2025.
Earlier, the Red Crescent reported losing contact with its medical team after the Israeli forces besieged them as they tried to rescue the victims of air and artillery attacks in Rafah.
The Israeli military launched an air and ground assault in Tel al-Sultan on Sunday. The Zionist forces' barbaric act during the sacred month of Ramadan killed and injured civilians, and besieged thousands of Palestinians, including emergency response personnel.
The Gaza media office previously stated that the Israeli forces abducted 15 paramedics and civil defense workers in Rafah, and urged the international community to pressure the Zionist Israeli government to release them immediately.
The Israeli army carried out a sudden air operation in Gaza on March 18, killing 855 people, injuring nearly 1,900 others, and destroying the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that was in place in January.
