TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of State Secretariat, Prasetyo Hadi, stated that the Indonesian government has won the bid to purchase a hotel and land in Saudi Arabia, which will be developed as the location for the Indonesian Hajj Village.
Prasetyo confirmed the victory after Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani reported it during the Red and White Cabinet retreat held at Padepokan Garuda Yaksa, Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday, January 6, 2025.
"Bapak Rosan reported that we have won the bidding, and now we have our own hotel in Mecca, which is a result of the extraordinary diplomacy of the President," said Prasetyo Hadi during a press briefing at the media center in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday, January 6, 2025.
He explained that Indonesia's success in owning a hotel and land in Saudi Arabia resulted from President Prabowo Subianto's diplomatic efforts to change Saudi Arabia's foreign asset ownership policy.
According to Pras, as he is affectionately called, Indonesia's ownership of assets in Saudi Arabia is a gift to the Indonesian people, especially Muslims.
"For the first time, the Saudi government has changed the rules to allow a country to own assets in Saudi Arabia. I think this is a gift for the Indonesian people and especially for Muslims," said Pras.
A Hotel and 5-Hectare Land
Danantara CEO and Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries, Rosan Roeslani, previously mentioned that Indonesia has purchased a hotel and approximately 5 hectares of land in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, which will be developed as the Indonesian Hajj Village.
The purchased hotel is Novotel Thakher Makkah, which has a capacity of 1,461 rooms and three towers, and can accommodate 4,383 Indonesian pilgrims.
The government also plans to construct an additional 13 towers, bringing the total number of rooms to 6,025.
With this development, the Indonesian Hajj Village is expected to accommodate thousands of Indonesian pilgrims with more integrated, comfortable, and efficient facilities.
Rosan also explained that the location of the Indonesian Hajj Village is very close to the Masjid al-Haram, much more strategic compared to the residential areas of Indonesian pilgrims, which are generally located 4.5 to 6 kilometers away.
The value of the hotel and land purchase amounts to approximately US$500 million. Meanwhile, the planned additional construction of 13 towers and a shopping center is estimated to require an investment of US$700-800 million.
Prabowo's diplomatic success is a form of the government's concern for the Indonesian pilgrims.
The government is committed to improving the quality of Hajj and Umrah services and providing Indonesian citizens with protection and comfort in the Holy Land.
