TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Finance Minister, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, confirmed on Wednesday that the deadline for individual taxpayers to submit their 2025 annual income tax returns (SPT) will be extended to April 30, 2026, from the original March 31 deadline.
The Ministry of Finance will formalize the extension through an official circular.
“(The filing deadline) is extended by one month to April 30,” Purbaya said at his office in Jakarta.
The move follows earlier statements from Director General of Taxes, Bimo Wijayanto, who said the extension was being considered because this year’s filing period coincides with the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr holidays, which can affect taxpayers’ ability to meet the original deadline.
DJP Director of Education, Service, and Public Relations, Inge Diana Rismawanti, added that the ministry is also preparing to relax administrative penalties for taxpayers who file after March 31.
“Under the tax law, individual taxpayers’ annual income tax returns are due no later than three months after the end of the fiscal year,” she said.
As of March 24, 2026, the Directorate General of Taxes reported that 16,723,354 taxpayers had activated their Coretax accounts, with 8,874,904 having already submitted their annual returns.
Activated accounts include 15,677,209 individual taxpayers, 955,508 corporate taxpayers, 90,411 government agencies, and 226 electronic commerce traders (PMSE).
For the January–December 2025 fiscal year, submissions included 7,826,341 individual employees, 863,272 non-employee individuals, 183,583 corporate taxpayers in rupiah, and 138 corporate taxpayers in U.S. dollars. Taxpayers with alternative fiscal years reported 1,549 corporate taxpayers in rupiah and 21 in U.S. dollars.
The extension aims to ease compliance pressures during a busy holiday period, ensuring taxpayers have sufficient time to file their returns while minimizing errors and penalties. The government continues to encourage electronic filing through Coretax to streamline reporting and improve overall tax administration efficiency.
