TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Indonesian Film Board (BPI) has communicated with Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno to become a strategic partner in realizing Jakarta as a city of cinema during Jakarta's quincentennial celebrations.

"We also ask the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) to help facilitate the collaboration between the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Indonesian Film Board," said BPI Chairman Fauzan Zidni in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

According to him, the launch of the Jakarta Film Commission is a strategic step to strengthen the film industry in the capital.

He said the Jakarta Film Commission offers various programs that can encourage the growth of the film industry, such as a 50 percent refund of entertainment tax, discounts on the use of filming locations on Jakarta Provincial Government assets, and other support.

Meanwhile, Jakarta DPRD Speaker Suhud Alynudin supports several opportunities for collaboration between the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Indonesian Film Board.

"We at the Jakarta DPRD support this, because this is part of the effort to make Jakarta a global city," he said.

Suhud stated that the development of the film industry is in line with the plan to make Jakarta a city of cinema.

Based on BPI data, Jakarta is the region with the largest number of Indonesian film viewers. Therefore, Suhud continued, strengthening the film ecosystem is crucial for the industry's optimal development.

In addition to supporting the growth of the creative economy, the film industry also plays a role in strengthening modern culture, especially in the lead-up to Jakarta's quincentennial.

"Films explain social life and serve as role models for society," said Suhud.

According to him, developing the film industry will open up spaces for expression and create job opportunities for those interested in or involved in the film industry.
