Jokowi Visits Bareskrim to Provide Info on Fake Diploma Allegations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited the Indonesian Police Criminal Investigation Department to undergo questioning by the police over alleged fake diploma. Jokowi and the entourage arrived at the Indonesian Police Criminal Investigation Department building, Bareskrim Polri, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 around 09:43 AM Western Indonesian Time.

The former Mayor of Solo arrived wearing a long-sleeved brown batik suit with a black cap. He was accompanied by aides and his legal team. Jokowi went straight into the building without giving a statement to the journalists.

Prior to this, Jokowi's legal team, Yakup Hasibuan, submitted his client's original diploma to the Indonesian Police Criminal Investigation Department on Friday, May 9, 2025. Yakup stated that the diploma would be examined in connection with the report from Eggi Sudjana to Bareskrim Polri.

"So this is a little different from what we reported to the Metro Jaya Regional Police. Here, Mr. Jokowi is the reported party," said Yakup at the Bareskrim Polri building on Friday.

Yakup stated that Jokowi's high school and university diplomas from Gadjah Mada University would undergo forensic examination due to the alleged fakeness. However, he did not know until when the forensic examination would be conducted by the investigators.

According to him, Jokowi is ready to undergo the legal process regarding the alleged fake diploma reported against him. "He is willing to submit his diploma because this is the order of law enforcement," said Yakup.

Prior to this, the General Crime Investigation Directorate of the Indonesian Police Criminal Investigation Department was also investigating allegations of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, having a fake diploma. Brigadier General Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro of the General Crime Investigation Directorate Bareskrim Polri in his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, said that the complaint was filed by the Defender of Ulama and Activists Team (TPUA) chaired by Eggy Sudjana.

"As stated in the letter number Special/TPUA/XII/2024 dated December 9, 2024 regarding the complaint of the finding of public discovery (and from various social media as a form of notoire feiten or facts already known to the public) of the legal defect of Jokowi's undergraduate diploma by the Defender of Ulama and Activists Team," he said as quoted by Antara.

Jokowi reported five people in connection with the alleged fake diploma to the Metro Jaya Regional Police on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. A total of five people were reported for allegations of defamation and slander against Jokowi, namely RS, RS, ES, T, and K.
