TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has ordered accelerating waste-to-energy management in major Indonesian cities.
As reported by Antara, Prabowo made this statement while receiving Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, who is also the Head of the Danantara Investment Management Agency, along with several other ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, at his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday.
"Danantara Chair Rosan Roeslani reported on the progress of the waste-to-energy program in Indonesia, with a focus on large, densely populated cities such as Jakarta, Tangerang, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Medan, and Bali," said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in a written statement.
Teddy explained that the WTE program could be a strategic solution for the unresolved waste problem. Additionally, the WTE program will support the provision of sustainable, alternative energy sources.
He said that President Prabowo wanted the central government to take swift and integrated steps to address the waste problem in the regions.
The Head of State hopes that the longstanding piles of rubbish can be cleaned up and removed immediately and used as an energy source, particularly for electricity.
“President Prabowo wants the central government to take immediate control of the long-neglected waste in the regions so it can be cleaned up, removed, and used to generate energy, especially electricity,” said Teddy.
This step confirms the government's commitment to developing a modern, technology-based waste management system while strengthening national energy security by utilizing environmentally friendly domestic resources.
The waste-to-energy program is expected to solve environmental problems and open up new economic opportunities. It will also create jobs and propel Indonesian cities towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.
