TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - FIFA has announced the 2026 World Cup Team of the Tournament following the conclusion of the competition held across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
World champions Spain and France emerged as the most represented nations in the best eleven, each contributing three players.
Arranged in a 4-3-3 formation, the ideal lineup featured players from six different nations in recognition of their standout performances throughout the tournament.
One of the biggest surprises came at the goalkeeper position. FIFA selected Cape Verde's Vozinha ahead of Spanish custodian Unai Simón, despite Simón anchoring La Roja to 2026 World Cup glory and earning the Golden Glove award.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper stole the spotlight after helping Cape Verde hold Spain to a goalless draw in their opening match.
Vozinha concluded the tournament with 18 saves, ranking eighth among goalkeepers. Meanwhile, Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill proved the busiest between the posts with 28 saves.
In defense, FIFA selected Spain's Pedro Porro and Marc Cucurella, France's Dayot Upamecano, and Argentina's Lisandro Martínez.
Porro and Cucurella served as crucial pillars in Spain's backline, which conceded just a single goal throughout the competition.
However, the decision raised eyebrows after Spanish center-backs Aymeric Laporte and Pau Cubarsí were left out, despite their stellar displays throughout the campaign. Cubarsí had even been named the Best Young Player of the 2026 World Cup.
Lisandro Martínez featured in seven of Argentina's eight matches before sustaining an injury in the final. Upamecano, meanwhile, anchored France's defense, which conceded only two goals en route to the semifinals.
In midfield, FIFA opted for Rodri, Jude Bellingham, and Michael Olise. Rodri claimed the Golden Ball award for his pivotal role in driving Spain to World Cup victory.
Meanwhile, Michael Olise registered seven assists, falling just one short of French legend Raymond Kopa's long-standing record set in 1958.
For his part, Bellingham enjoyed a prolific tournament with seven goals, finishing third in the Golden Boot standings.
Up front, the attacking trio comprised Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Erling Haaland. Mbappé bagged the Golden Boot after netting 10 goals and delivering four assists, setting a new benchmark as the World Cup's all-time top scorer with 22 goals across three editions.
The 39-year-old Messi continued to showcase his enduring class, guiding Argentina to its third World Cup final across the last four editions. The Albiceleste captain concluded the tournament with eight goals and four assists.
Erling Haaland, meanwhile, rounded out the front line after scoring seven goals for Norway during the campaign.
FIFA World Cup 2026 Team of the Tournament (4-3-3):
Goalkeeper: Vozinha (Cape Verde)
Defenders: Pedro Porro (Spain), Dayot Upamecano (France), Lisandro Martínez (Argentina), Marc Cucurella (Spain)
Midfielders: Jude Bellingham (England), Rodri (Spain), Michael Olise (France)
