TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - K-pop girl group NewJeans is reportedly making a comeback with four members, signaled through a series of videos posted on the group's YouTube channel at midnight on July 22 in South Korea time, according to Yonhap on Wednesday.
Posted without prior notice, the series of videos is titled "2026 Summer of NewJeans," coinciding with the group's fourth anniversary of their debut.
The video has garnered nearly 1.4 million views on YouTube, as of Wednesday at 01:52 p.m. Jakarta time.
New photos featuring the four NewJeans members—Haerin, Hyein, Minji, and Hanni—were also posted on the group's official website and Instagram account.
According to the group's agency, ADOR, details regarding NewJeans' future activities will be announced after all discussions are completed, and that they will continue to release further content for fans.
Notably absent in the series of photos and clips was the group's former fifth member, Danielle.
This release marks NewJeans' first group material after a hiatus of approximately one year and four months. NewJeans had previously suspended group activities following a dispute with ADOR regarding the dismissal of former CEO Min Hee-jin and the status of the members' exclusive contracts.
In November 2024, NewJeans announced the termination of their contract with ADOR. However, the court later ruled in favor of the agency, both in the preliminary injunction and the main lawsuit, restricting the members' independent activities.
Following the ruling, Haerin, Hyein, and Hanni rejoined ADOR last year. Meanwhile, ADOR announced the termination of the contract with its fifth member, Danielle. ADOR also previously stated that discussions regarding Minji's status were progressing positively.
NewJeans debuted on July 22, 2022, with the release of the music video for "Attention" and has since released hit songs such as "Hype Boy," "Ditto," "OMG," and "Super Shy."
Citing Billboard, NewJeans have had a successful run since their debut in 2022. The group has landed five songs on the Billboard Hot 100, and their 2nd EP, 'Get Up,' topped the Billboard 200 albums chart in 2023.
In 2024, NewJeans was honored as Group of the Year at Billboard's Women in Music ceremony.
