TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Armed personnel from the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) patrolled the National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) on Jalan Trunojoyo, South Jakarta, on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11:40 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB). Dozens of Brimob personnel disembarked from armored tactical vehicles, fully armed and in black uniforms, to walk in groups around the outer perimeter of the complex.
While these tactical vehicles are routinely stationed at strategic gates of the Mabes Polri complex, their deployment followed rumors of a raid allegedly carried out by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters (Polda Metro Jaya) earlier that morning.
National Police Public Relations Senior Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir denied any security tightening at the HQ, stating that operations were running normally to ensure public services continued uninterrupted. He emphasized that conditions remained conducive and the public was being well-served. "Not at all [security tightening]. Members of the public who require police services are still easily served at National Police Headquarters," Johnny said when confirmed on Thursday.
Earlier, dozens of TNI soldiers were reported to have visited the Jakarta Metro Police HQ in the early hours of Thursday, July 9, 2026, at around 3:40 a.m. WIB. The incident occurred after a joint investigative team conducted searches at a cafe and a luxury house related to three separate cases on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Several eyewitnesses claimed to have seen dozens of TNI members inside the Jakarta Metro Police HQ complex around that time, and Tempo observed several TNI official vehicles with green-and-red license plates moving back and forth in front of the Jakarta Police Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation at 9:00 a.m.
Information obtained by Tempo and confirmed by two senior police officials indicated that several TNI officers arrived at the Jakarta Metro Police HQ early Thursday morning. The group reportedly included Brigadier General Wahyo Yuniartoto from the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais), Brigadier General Anggiat Napitupulu from the Special Task Force for Forest Area Regulation (Satgas PKH), a colonel who graduated from the Military Academy in 2001, 10 armed and uniformed TNI personnel, and five Public Prosecutor's Office personnel in civilian attire.
The Head of the TNI Information Center, Brigadier General Muhammad Nas, denied the report regarding the arrival of these officers. "It's not true," Nas said. When contacted on Thursday, July 9, 2026, he also dismissed any claims of TNI intervention in the legal proceedings at the Jakarta Metro Police HQ. "The TNI respects the legal process and does not interfere with the established mechanisms," Nas stated.
One day earlier, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, a joint team from the National Police Anti-Corruption Corps (Kortastipidkor) and the Polda Metro Jaya Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) conducted simultaneous searches at 12 locations. The operations were part of ongoing investigations into corruption, money laundering, and bribery cases.
The searches were linked to three separate corruption cases: alleged bribery and money laundering at PT Asabri, corruption in coal supplies that caused a blackout in Sumatra, and a case involving PT Krakatau Steel. "Several locations were simultaneously searched," said the Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Investigators also searched Cafe de’Clan Signature on Jalan Cilandak Tengah, Cipete, South Jakarta, on the same day. The Head of Kortastipidkor, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, confirmed that the searches were tied to the three aforementioned cases.
"We continue to enforce the law, currently under a joint investigation scheme in the handling of corruption and money laundering cases in the legal process of PT Asabri and PT Krakatau Steel," Totok said.
Tempo's monitoring showed that as of 2:50 p.m. WIB, the situation at the National Police Headquarters remained calm and conducive, with no massive tightening of security measures in the area.
