TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said Tropical Cyclone Bavi remains active over the North Philippine Sea and is moving northwest, away from Indonesian territory.
BMKG forecaster Lintang Alya said the cyclone is generating a low-level jet, or a band of strong winds in the lower atmosphere, over the western North Pacific and the Philippine Sea. The system has also triggered convergence and confluence zones over the North Philippine Sea and the northern Halmahera Sea.
"These conditions could increase the potential for rain cloud formation around the tropical cyclone and along the convergence and confluence zones," Lintang said in BMKG's weather outlook for Friday, July 10, 2026.
According to BMKG, the atmospheric dynamics associated with the cyclone could lead to significant weather changes in several parts of Indonesia, particularly in the eastern regions.
The agency urged residents in South Papua to remain vigilant for the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
In western Indonesia, BMKG warned of moderate rainfall potential in Tanjung Selor, while light rain is forecast for Medan and Tanjung Pinang.
Cloudy to heavily overcast conditions are expected in several cities, including Banda Aceh, Pekanbaru, Jambi, Bengkulu, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Pontianak, Palangka Raya, Samarinda, and Banjarmasin.
Meanwhile, haze or fog is forecast in Padang.
In eastern Indonesia, light rain is expected in Sorong, Nabire, Jayapura, Wamena, and Merauke.
Cloudy to heavily overcast skies are also forecast in Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Mamuju, Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, and Manokwari.
BMKG advised the public to monitor the latest weather updates and remain alert to potential weather disruptions, particularly in areas vulnerable to heavy rainfall and related impacts such as flooding and landslides.
