TNI, Police, AGO Urged to Unite amid Coal Graft Feud

Officers from the National Police's Corruption Eradication Commission (Kortas Tipikor) and the Director of Special Crimes at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police carried several pieces of evidence after raiding the de'Clan Signature Cafe in the Cipete area, Jakarta, on July 8, 2026. TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A member of the House of Representatives Commission III from the Golkar Party faction, Soedeson Tandra, has urged the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) to maintain a united front in eradicating corruption. He warned that corruption risks disrupting several priority programs of President Prabowo Subianto.

"Particularly in the President's upcoming programs, energy issues and energy resilience are national priorities that must be jointly supported," Tandra said at the House building in Central Jakarta on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

Tandra's remarks came in response to the tense dynamics between the TNI, Polri, and the AGO over an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption and money laundering linked to coal.

On Wednesday night, July 8, 2026, dozens of armed military personnel guarded the residence of the AGO's Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah, on Jalan Radio in Kramat Pela, South Jakarta.

Aftermath of the Coal Case Raids

The heavy security presence, involving more than a platoon of TNI soldiers, followed a raid earlier that day on Kafe de'Clan Signature in Cipete, South Jakarta, by joint investigators from the National Police's Corruption Eradication Task Force (Kortastipidkor) and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police. The cafe was targeted as part of a widening probe into corruption, bribery, and money laundering.

Tandra further urged the AGO to fully support police investigators in thoroughly probing the coal supply corruption case that recently triggered a massive blackout across Sumatra. He emphasized that everyone is equal before the law, whether they are high-ranking officials, business executives, or ordinary employees.

National Police Kortastipidkor chief Insp. Gen. Totok Suharyanto previously explained that simultaneous raids were conducted at eight locations, including the Cipete cafe and the Point Money Changer. These operations spanned three major cases under a joint investigation scheme: the PT Asabri graft scandal, the Sumatra coal corruption case, and the PT Krakatau Steel case.

Addressing the situation on the ground, Jakarta Metropolitan Police spokesperson Grand Commissioner Budi Hermanto urged all parties involved to respect the ongoing legal process. He warned that any attempts to obstruct justice could lead to criminal prosecution.

"We remind anyone attempting to interfere with the investigation that they can be prosecuted under Article 21 of the Corruption Eradication Law," Budi said.

Notably, this is not the first time tension has flared around Jampidsus Febrie Adriansyah. On May 19, 2024, Febrie was tailed by the police’s Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) counterterrorism unit while dining at the very same cafe, which then operated under the name Gontran Cherrier.
