TEMPO.CO, Jakarta U.S. attacks on five Iranian provinces in the past two days killed at least 14 people and wounded 78 others, Iran's Health Ministry reported on Thursday.

"The United States targeted five provinces of Iran with attacks on July 8 and 9," wrote the Head of the Public Relations and Information Center of the Iranian Ministry of Health, Hossein Kermanpour, in his post on social media X, as quoted by ANTARA.

He said that so far the attack had left 14 people dead and 78 others injured. According to the ministry, 47 injured victims are still undergoing treatment in hospital, while others have been discharged after receiving medical treatment.

Three of the dead were the result of an attack near the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz, according to Iran's state news agency, IRNA, which quoted Khuzestan Province's Deputy Governor for Security, Valiollah Hayati.

The latest casualty figures were announced as the conflict between the U.S. and Iran escalates after the collapse of a fragile ceasefire reached last month.

The escalation began after the U.S. accused Iran of attacking three merchant ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. This accusation prompted Washington to launch a series of attacks on Iranian military targets along the country's southern coast.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation targeted more than 170 military sites in two days, including air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone infrastructure, naval infrastructure, and facilities belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to CENTCOM, the strikes were aimed at preventing further attacks on international shipping.

Iran has retaliated by launching drone and missile attacks targeting U.S. military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait.

Previously, Iran and the U.S. had reached a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding on June 17 to end the military conflict and pave the way for a more permanent peace agreement.

However, on Wednesday, President Donald Trump declared the MoU was “over,” effectively ending the deal and triggering a new round of military confrontation.
