TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri) has received a report of alleged kidnapping and assault against an Indonesian citizen in Selangor, Malaysia. The victim, Doris Candra, a resident of Prabumulih, South Sumatra, is suspected to have fallen victim to violence related to illegal tin smuggling.
Brigadier General Moh. Irhamni, Director of Special Criminal Investigation of Bareskrim Polri, stated that the Indonesian Police Attach in Kuala Lumpur received the forwarded report on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 20:21 Malaysian time. "The victim suffered a broken leg, as well as injuries to the hands and head, presumably inflicted by the perpetrators of illegal tin smuggling," said Irhamni on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Irhamni mentioned that the incident was suspected to have occurred at a house in the Pantai Sepang Putra area, Tanjong Sepat, Selangor. After receiving the report, the Indonesian Police Attach in Kuala Lumpur coordinated with the Kuala Langat District Police to request assistance in rescuing the victim.
Upon rechecking, it was found that the location of the incident fell within the jurisdiction of the Sepang District Police. Malaysian police then directed the Sungai Pelek Police Station for the rescue operation.
At 23:18 Malaysian time, officers successfully evacuated Doris using a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) from a location suspected to be a homestay and inhabited by several people. Based on initial statements, Doris confessed that the culprits forced her to bring tin from Indonesia to Malaysia. The victim also admitted to being persuaded to come to Malaysia before experiencing assault.
Irhamni stated that the Indonesian Police Attach in Kuala Lumpur has coordinated with the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of Bareskrim Polri to follow up on the case through police-to-police cooperation. This coordination was carried out for the purpose of investigation and further development of the alleged illegal tin smuggling case. "As this report is being submitted, the Indonesian Police Attach is still waiting for subsequent steps and actions from the local authorities," said Irhamni.
